July was all about family. I spent a full month on vacation with loved ones, and while it was refreshing for the mind, my camera mostly stayed in the bag. Sometimes a proper break is exactly what a hobbyist needs.
During the summer, I received two serious pieces of gear: the Canon EOS R5 Mark II and the Canon RF 600mm f/4L IS USM lens. I haven’t had a chance to really put this dream combo to use yet, but that time is just around the corner. I know there will be a lot to learn, especially when it comes to the new camera features and handling the weight. But I’m not complaining. Right now, it feels like starting fresh, and the excitement level is up there with the ISO in a dark forest.

Heat Wave Hitting the Wildlife
Even though my camera has been silent, nature has not. Finland has been hit by a real heat wave, and it hasn’t been kind to wildlife. Some nesting birds have been forced to leave the nest too early due to extreme heat. The temperatures don’t ask if you’re ready – they just push you out. It’s a harsh reminder of how fragile the natural cycle is and how important it is to document these moments too.
A New Photography Season Starting Soon
The break served its purpose, and now it’s time to restart the hobby. I’ll begin using the new gear in the coming days or weeks – no rush, but with intention. Powering up the camera, tightening the tripod, and heading out to see what this setup can do.
I’ll be sharing updates, photos, and first impressions here on the blog and on my Instagram account. If you’ve also had a break or are thinking about upgrading your gear, stay tuned. I’ll be sharing the highs as well as the lessons learned along the way.
Nature never stands still. And luckily, neither does this passion. It just takes a breath and then continues with renewed energy.
